Steak Sandwich

To be precise, the menu reads “Grass fed beef flank steak sandwich on baguette with lbores cheese and balsamic onions.” It’s really an amazing combination of ingredients that make a perfect steak sandwich. I normally have hesitations about flank steak because often the steak is very chewy and by the end of the meal my jaw hurts. The flank steak at Brown, however, is cooked very rare and the meat is not chewy. The texture of the meat is smooth and tender, and the balsamic onions give the sandwich a touch of sweetness. The baguette is fresh and crisp and the cheese is perfectly melted and holds all the ingredients together. As far as steak sandwiches go, this one is positively delicious!

Brown is a charming little cafe in the lower part of the Lower East Side. Right next door is its sister store, Orange, an epicerie that also serves food. Both have a personal and neighborhoody Le Pain Quotidien feel. A stop in for some mint tea and breakfast is a great way to start a Sunday.
