Last Night

I am not ashamed to admit that I am a huge Moby fan. I say this with full knowledge that Moby fandom may not currently be the most fashionable thing in music. But if liking Moby is wrong, I don’t want to be right. That said, Moby’s latest offering is not among his best work. What he does do here, however, is aspire to recreate the sound that made him hip and oh so relevant in the 1990s. Unfortunately, I find this attempt to be a somewhat pale imitation of his prior work. Nevertheless, there are some really good tracks here that will not disappoint, like “257.zero,” “Stars” and “Everyday is 1989.” These songs and others will make old folks like myself nostalgic for the raves back in the day. And the album does grow on you. More importantly, it is so much better than his lackluster last album Hotel, and I am being kind here.
