I bought a bag of Chocolate Covered Pretzel Crisps that never made it into my kitchen. The Snack factory makes a variety of savory Pretzel Crisps like garlic and buffalo wing, and I recently tried the chocolate-covered ones at a party. They were in the kitchen, not even on the food table. I felt rude and out of line, but I couldn’t stop eating them. So I bought my own and now I am addicted. It’s as if they got an old fashioned chunky pretzel, sliced it in half, then flattened it, leaving a thin crunchy pretzel cracker. They are covered in dark chocolate, but at only 45% cacao they don’t taste bitter at all. These treats are a perfect mix of savory and sweet, and who doesn’t love that playful contrast!

What was once a valuable medicine for the Romans is now my favorite after-dinner treat. Greek yogurts seem to be on the rise, and I have found my favorite in the bunch. While I can appreciate the taste of plain Greek yogurt drizzled with honey (lots of it), The Greek Gods fig yogurt has swept me off my feet. It has the thick consistency of typical Greek yogurt, but a layer of sweet fig spread awaits you at the bottom. Caramel in color and seedy like a Newton, the fig paste is absolutely delightful. Mixed with the honey and yogurt, the result is a creamy, toasty concoction. Forget the medicinal aspects, I’m eating this for taste!

I’m always on the lookout for the perfect croissant. It doesn’t matter whether I’m craving something savory or something sweet, if I see a croissant with potential, I give it a whirl. Those buttery bundles of flakey goodness never disappoint. So I finally came across the infamous pretzel croissant from City Bakery. Turns out, I’m obsessed. It looks like a croissant, feels like a croissant, but tastes like a pretzel — a buttery, flakey, tender little pretzel with the right amount of salt in every bite. The outer shell is crisp and buttery and when you sink your teeth into it, you’ll be pleased to find a soft fluffy inside with dainty brown pretzel-like specs. Adorned with a light sprinkling of sesame seeds, there’s a delicate crunch as you gnaw away at this heavenly treat.

Hot Dog Nuggets

Nathan’s is famous not only for its hot dogs, but also the annual hot dog-eating contest — what an event! But, despite its fame, other than the occasional barbeque or baseball game, I don’t often eat Nathan’s hot dogs. The hot dog nuggets, however, are dangerously addictive and delicious! These mini corn dogs, bite-size all-beef hot dogs dipped and deep-fried in slightly sweet cornmeal batter, are better than regular corndogs because the proportion of cornmeal to hot dog is perfect. It’s just a thin layer of batter over the mini dog, which makes them slightly less filling at first, so you can keep popping these suckers in, kind of like pigs in blankets, and who doesn’t love those?! They taste great by themselves or dipped in sauce: barbeque, sweet and sour, or honey mustard.

Grandaisy Bakery has delicious pizzas whose recipes date back to the original Sullivan Street Bakery. Though the once-owners of a single enterprise have now gone their separate ways, the two resulting bakeries both serve many similar, if not some of the same, delicious goodies. However, the cauliflower pizza is only available at Grandaisy bakery, and it is in my opinion the most delicious of the pizzas, though all of them — potato, tomato, mushroom, zucchini, celery root — are excellent! With pieces of cauliflower, gruyere cheese and specks of parsley topping their signature crispy, thin crust, it’s a delicate but winning combination. On occasion, walking home after having a slice, I’ve had to circle back to get another.
