Peanut Butter & Co. Cookies & Peanut Butter

July 11th, 2008

This week’s winners are Julia and Patricia Grande. Congratulations!

Below is the original Baking Friday post from this week.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SALAD IN TOWN?

Scroll down to enter a comment. Make sure to click on “submit” after the preview appears on screen. Send in your answer by 5pm today and you will automatically be entered into the drawing to win a Peanut Butter & Co. peanut butter cookie tin and two jars of peanut butter: Bee’s Knees and Mighty Maple. Winners will be contacted via email to arrange for prize delivery. Prizes will be mailed, so this Baking Friday is open to participants nationwide.

The source for all things peanut butter has a couple of new flavors: The Bee’s Knees and Mighty Maple. I love honey and maple syrup, for different occasions, but both are the perfect complement to peanut butter.

In addition to the two jars of peanut butters, Peanut Butter & Co. is also throwing in a tin of peanut butter cookies for this week’s Baking Friday prize. So for all you peanut butter fanatics out there, this is your week!

Peanut Butter & Co. is located in SoHo at 240 Sullivan Street, and their products are sold nationwide. Click here to find a store. Or check out their online shop here.

We thank Peanut Butter & Co. for this week’s Baking Friday contribution!

Not in town but I made a good one the other day. Head of Boston lettuce, artichoke hearts, and toasted pine nuts. Dressing was just olive oil and lemon with a touch of Turkish crushed red pepper.

Daikon salad with fried chicken and plum dressing at Sake Bar Hagi.

I recently enjoyed Fig & Olive’s, signature FIG & OLIVE SALAD, which is light and satisfying, but Blue Ribbon Bakery’s MARKET SALAD is delicious and a perfectly satisfying meal.

mmm. The Tokyo Turkey at Cafe Medina – smoked turkey, bean sprouts, toastd almonds, fresh red pepper strips all over baby lettuce with sesame-soy dressing.

For a midtown lunch, skip the corporate chains and head to Caffe Pepe Rosso in the Grand Central Dining Concourse for any of their fine Insalate. The apples, arugula and Gorgonzola is a simple classic.

The Southern Chicken Salad at Clyde’s:
Spinach, juicy fried chicken, candied pecans, cranberries and mangoes. Yummy!

the golden beet salad at the ronnybrook milk bar. only had it once (labor day weekend last year), but have not been able to stop thinking about it since. golden beets, thinly sliced radished and coach farm goat cheses with a mint vinaigretette. simple. refreshing. incredible. not to mention that you are in close proximity to milkshakes. that always helps to sway my decision ;)

I’d have to go with a homemade salad with mixed lettuce, avocado, black beans, tomatoes, corn and some cheese. The homemade dressing I’ve been a fan of lately is olive oil, honey, lime and cilantro.

Otherwise, Extra Virgin’s warm pistachio crusted goat cheese salad is pretty yummy!

The fried chicken breast with endive and blue cheese salad at Elephant and Castle on Greenwich Avenue. I keep going back and ordering it to exclusion of all other items. But make sure their fryer has been repaired before you go.

The Salad Frisee with Blue Cheese, Bacon and Poached Egg at Artisanal Bistro on Park Avenue sounds magnifique!

Insalata Verde at I Trulli. Market greens, grape tomatoes, shards of fresh parmesan, a drizzle of sherry-shallot vinaigrette. Simple perfection, memorable and a beauty plated up.

I crave the Gold Gym salad at Serafina: grilled chicken, mixed greens, sundried tomatoes, raisin, pine nuts, pesto dressing…yum! I’ve also just learned the secret of the Beef Soba Salad at Soba Nippon.

the yellow fin tuna salad w/mango dressing at monkey bar. i hate salads but i had no problem killing this one

I am a “plain Jane”. My favorite salad comes from my grandmother’s recipe, just romaine, cucumbers, red onions, oil and vinegar…some asiago if we’re feeling adventurous!

Hand’s down the best salad(s) are found at Le Pain de Quotidien, which are located all over Manhattan. Salad Vegeterian is consistently my favorite, but I even go for the Chicken Cobb Salad now and then (and I’m not really a bacon lover either!) Specials like the Arugula with fresh goat cheese and pine nuts are seasonal of course and provide a refreshing new choice now and then! Oh not to mention all organic and comes with freshly baked baquette slices! YUMMY!

I don’t have a particular favorite. I love all interesting salads with anything but ordinary items, especially exotic fruit or cheese.

Milano Market in the Upper West Side packs a pretty nice punch when it comes to quick salads for lunch during work. For a decent and fresh salad, not to mention a really solid dining experience, try Dovetail’s local bitter lettuce salads.

In a generally ho-hum culinary landscape, I regularly enjoyed the gorgonzola salad at Moon River Pizza in Jacksonville, FL (where, thank goodness, I no longer live!). What makes this salad so special and delicious is a mystery to me, but SAINTS ALIVE! its like crack salad. Sooo good! As far as I can tell, its just romaine, gorgonzola crumbles, walnuts, sliced white onion, tomato and a simple (made by sysco?) vinaigrette. I live in Seattle now, but I still think about that salad!

The frisee au lardons at Balthazar. Crisp frisee, plump lardons, and croutons made from their fabulous baguette, all tossed with a light yet flavorful vinaigrette and topped with a perfectly poached egg.

i’m not a huge salad eater but the cobb salad at ej’s luncheonette is one of the few that’s hearty enough to constitute a meal for me.

Posted by nelson • 11 July 2008, 12:33

The shaved fennel, red onion and apple salad at Market Table. Also the chopped salad at Pietro’s.

Posted by Patricia Grande • 11 July 2008, 12:50

my favorite salad is one I make myself with fresh ingredients from the union square greenmarket

Posted by Michael • 11 July 2008, 12:54

Fried chicken salad with stilton cheese which I have been having at Noho Star restaurant for the past 20 years.

Posted by Lita Talarico • 11 July 2008, 13:02

club salad at houston’s.

The baby beet salad at Cafe Luxembourg is fantastic. The citrus dressing brings out the earthy flavor of the beets.

Posted by adrienne • 11 July 2008, 13:28

Fennel and arugula!! yum

Posted by Jenny • 11 July 2008, 17:51

Any spinach salad w/ candied pecans or walnuts for texture, red onions, crispy bacon, and champagne vinaigrette!!

Posted by Maureen • 11 July 2008, 18:34

I have to say that, in the culinary wasteland that is the Philadelphia Main Line, my Salade Frisee made with thinly sliced red onion, crispy-smokey lardons and homemade garlic-peppercorn croutons, then topped with oeufs en meurette (poached in red wine), served with my homemade Dijon vinaigrette is the best anyone can find around here. My Personal Chef clients request it over and over!
