I love Italian food! I also love traveling and discovering great places to eat. So naturally, I fell in love with the cookbook, Adventures of an Italian Food Lover. In deciding to feature the book and some of my favorite Italian restaurants in the City, I thought it only made sense to share the book with our readers by giving away two copies!

I just love Italian food very much, they are really delicious. I liked the book very much and was happy after preparing recipes.

Pepolino at 281 West Broadway. A hidden, tiny, gem. We happened to be lucky to have this little place right around the corner from our old office. It was itty-bitty and had a very comfy warm feel. The fresh-made pasta was just carb-heaven: soft gnocchi and awesome al dente linguine – the epitome of comfort food. Really good white bean appetizer. I also remember delicious bread just with olive oil or with big ruddy chunks of flavorful tomatoes. It was all just very fresh and flavorful and good. Think the opposite of Carmines – it’s small, quiet, hidden, with reasonable portions. The down side is the weird Tribeca location, sort of near the Holland Tunnel, which is why I haven’t managed to go back since our office changed locations.

My problem with the resaturnts in NYC is that I get taken to these amazing places and perhaps it is the food coma setting in but I can never remember where the hell I am. I believe the name of the place I am thinking of is called Basta Pasta. An Italian menue seen through the lense of Japanize quizine. am not sure if this one counts for purly Italian restrunt but everthing was fresh and the mixture of tasts were unique and memorable.

My favorite Italian restaurant is Roberto Passon. Fortunately, it’s in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, the word is out about how good it is and it’s always busy.

Favorite Italian Restaurant: Supper on East 2nd St.
The most authentic Spaghetti al Limone (I just came back from Positano…and Supper’s version was perfectly authentic!)

admittedly, i have to try many many more, but as of now i love otto for its laid back atmosphere and conviviality and its very italian selection. grab a bottle of vino in the enoteca or stay for a whole meal. have to love their incredible vegetable selections (figs agrodolce or roasted beets with saba!), cured meats, and their gelato (oh, their gelato . . . the olive oil coppetta with basil syrup and sea salt to die for).

English is Italian used to be my fave before it closed. Nothing beat the fresh mozzerella prepared tableside. But now, I’ll vote for Lupa. It’s fantastico!

I’m a big fan of A Di La in Park Slope. If you’re feeling adventurous, the tripe is delicious.

Wow, that’s a tough one. I don’t know about the best one, but a recent favorite is Cacio e Pepe on 2nd Avenue and 11th St. Some great pastas and antipasti, a lovely outdoor garden, solid wine list, and very personable and friendly wait staff. I always have a good time when I go there.

I’m casting my vote for my new(ish) find: Frankies 457 Spuntino in Carroll Gardens. Supremely fresh food, with mostly organic and locally sourced ingredients. The salads (buffalo mozz & arugula; figs, gorgonzola, & watercress..) are phenomenal, soups (escarole & cannelini bean; lentil with smoked bacon…)are deeply comforting, and entrees (sweet sausage, roasted peppers and onions over pine nut polenta; squash and yam ravioli with sage & chestnut in parmesan broth…) are inventive and flavorful. Mmmm mmm!

Falai tops my list. The gnudi melted in my mouth and is etched in memory. The food is sheer perfection.

Aliseo in Prospect Heights. Run by the sweetest family, Aliseo has simple dishes, yet they are definitely above average.They only prove that you dont have to get too inventive to deliver a delicious meal. Their panna cotta with wine soaked figs is delightful!

The fresh tagliatelle with marinara (not on the menu, just ask for it) is amazingly delicious at Col Legno at 231 E 9th St. But my all-round favorite Italian restaurant is Gonzo (140 W 13th St) – best desserts too.

I Trulli Enoteca e Ristorante was the best Italian restuarant when I started eating there 10 years ago, and it still is.

Italian food is my favorite, so many combinations of foods that make every meal fresh and new. My favorite italian restaurant is Tony Angelo’s in New Orleans

Esca. We lived in Napoli for years… We love the fish and the NYC twist on Southern Italian cooking. And you can’t beat the name… it means “bait”!!! ;-)
