It’s the peak of summer and it’s hot so we thought we’d help everyone cool off by providing mixers that are perfect to make cocktails with. One of our latest discoveries is Fever-Tree premium mixers. These artisanal mixers (tonic water, club soda, ginger ale and bitter lemon) are made with all-natural ingredients. Whether paired with spirits or as stand-alone drinks, Fever-Tree, we’re totally hooked and would like to share our favorite new mixers with you!
Here’s a Fever-Tree bitter lemon granita recipe by Sarah Ballard, Pastry Chef of San Francisco’s Perbacco Ristorante.
Fever-Tree Bitter Lemon Granita*
Yield: 4 Servings
Ingredients:
12 oz. Fever-Tree Bitter Lemon (approx. two 6.8 ml bottles)
1/4 c. simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar)
Method:
Simple syrup
1. Prepare simple syrup by bringing water to a boil. Dissolve sugar in boiling water. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove pan from heat, let cool and measure ¼ cup.
2. Mix all ingredients together. Pour into a shallow pan or bowl and freeze for at least 2 hours.
3. Slush with a fork every 30 minutes until the mixture is the consistency of an icy granita.
*Serving suggestion: Serve with butter or almond cookies for a light, delicious dessert.
Thank you, Fever-Tree, for your contribution this week!

My favorite summer getaway is to go visit my friend’s vineyard in cusercoli, italy (emilia romagna region) and then head off to their beach house in cervia (outside of milano marittima) on the adriatic coast north or rimini.

I have no money and no rich friends, so I like to go to the movies. The air conditioning and plush seats make me feel like I’m in St. Tropez, where I have never been and will never go because I have no money.

I love going to Beach Haven in Long Beach Island to my friend’s parents’ home. It is always so relaxing with the bay breeze. And also so much fun at the beach front bars and restaurants.

My favorite retreat…wandering through the farmer’s markets in Seattle, then a picnic by the water…seaguls screeching overhead and ferries slipping across the horizon.
Wish we would have had something better to drink on this day:

A crab shack on the bay with an old friend a pitcher and some onion rings. Not great for the bikini season but sure to be a good time.

I stroll down to the pool at Thomas Jefferson Park at 112 and First and enjoy something from every street cart along the way. Coconut ice, roasted spicy corn on the cob, cuchifritos…Not having to go underground to get away, priceless…

The constant is a place to swim, but the location is usually never the same. :) Last year was Shelter Island. The water was so inviting though that I just might have to go back!

I personally don’t like to get away in the summer. I love traveling in the spring and the fall. Everyone’s traveling. The tourists are everywhere and locals are away. And the airfare’s expensive. May be I should consider the southern hemisphere like Australia in the summer next fime. But then again I don’t mind a pinic and a stroll at Storm King- it was beatiful 2 weekends ago.

I just got back from a week of housesitting in the Berkshires near Shelburne Falls Massachusetts. What a great vacation..I had a free house, an overflowing organic garden and a great kitchen for cooking…and lots of cold fresh swimming holes.
