We thank Donatella, for donating her hand-crafted cookies this week!
Restaurateur Donatella Arpaia of Ama, Davidburke & Donatella, and Anthos, wanted to share her favorite cookies from her childhood — traditional almond cookies — with her customer’s at Ama, so she experimented and perfected the recipe and put them on the dessert menu. Now they are available as part of the Donatella Food Collection. These cookies are made with almonds, sugar cinnamon, olive oil and clove (no flour), and are preservative free. They have a shelf life of about a month, in which the first two weeks of a fresh batch, they are chewy. Then the following two weeks, the cookies become more of a biscotti, and is a perfect pairing with coffee!
Just a quick note that Baking Friday will be on vacation for the next three weeks but we’ll be back on July 20th. Happy June and July!

Although I really enjoy drinking a Stella Artois with a bowl of mussels at Markt… there is no better place for drinking beer than at McSorley’s!

Im the first one!! Yes favorite beer is two places: One the beer shop called Beerkraft (5th ave and union) over 700 selections… what more could you say= want to try a pale ale, choose from ten countrys.
The second is Gingerman (on 36th and park), perfect snacks and loads of local beer. Small kegs and special barrels are always “on tap”.

Definitely the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden in Astoria. That’s the way that beer should be enjoyed — outside, on a sunny afternoon, with a plate of salty fries.

Personally I enjoy having a beer (or several) at the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg (79 N. 11th Street). It’s always fascinating to go on a Saturday at 5PM (sometimes it’s a little packed though) and listen to the same incredible story about the brewery, its founders, how the logo was designed, etc. And before, during, or/and after the little guided tour, you can enjoy the brewery’s locally made brews. And they have the whole range available of course (East India Pale Ale, Oktoberfest, Monster Ale, etc.), something you’ll never get in a regular bar…

I already named them for outside seating, but I do like Spite and Divel in Williamsburg. That would be the best summer/spring place. As for winter, I would have to say a nice hotel bar, there’s nothing like having a drink in a hotel bar.

I used to not truly enjoy beer, but the beer garden in Astoria is the best place to really do as the Romans/Greeks? do. It’s laid back, chilled out, shaded in parts, sunny in others…the perfect place to kick back with a Hoegaarden

The best Guinness, my favorate beer/stout I’ve had was at Moran’s on Tenth Avenue.
My favorite bar for drinking would be the Brooklyn Inn at the corner of Hoyt and Bergen Streets.
And Pete’s Waterfront Ale House for great beer and food.

i hate to repeat answers (i think i used this for a previous BF), but there is no place better to spend a saturday afternoon than at brooklyn brewery. they have the picnic tables where people bring board games or cards or food to accompany a leisurely afternoon of beer drinking. not to mention the heavenly smell of the brewery!

The Waterfront Ale House because the food is soooo good. Chef Ralph Yedinak will constantly surprise you with the quality and creativity of what others would call the basics. Try his fish sandwich (fresh fish of the day), sublime, bordering on an epiphany. The perfect beer complement.

Without fail, stepping into Donovan’s in Woodside (Roosevelt Ave and 57th St) makes me crave Guinness like no one’s business. They also have what is touted as the best burger in NYC, though as a vegetarian I’ll never be able to prove it.

Luna Park – Standard selection of Bud Light and Heinken, but you can’t beat the convival atmosphere and twinkling during the summer months.
