May 24th, 2007

The winners for this week’s BF are Denise and Jess.

Your sweets will be waiting for you at Joe (9 E 13th St) today after 1pm. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone for your responses to this week’s Baking Friday drawing!

I am so excited to try out all the brunch recommendations!

Baking Friday will take a break this week but check back next week for treats to win!

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BRUNCH CRAVING?

Click on “comment” below to submit an answer. Since it’s a long weekend, and the sweets this week have a longer shelf life, send in your comment by Tuesday, 5/29/07, at 5pm and you will automatically be entered into the drawing to win the treats.

Pick up your winnings anytime starting Wednesday, 5/30/07, at award-winning coffee shop, Joe (9 East 13th Street), including Joe coupons for your beverages of choice. Winners will be contacted via email.

This week, we thank Amai Tea & Bake House for donating two flavors of their 10-cookie canister of Tea Sweets for Baking Friday: Green Tea and Chai Almond. The recipe for Green Tea Sweets is a 2007 Golden Scoop Award finalist for Best Bakery Recipe. Good luck, Amai!

Amai’s beautifully packaged and original sweets are currently available for purchase at select retailers (see Amai’s website for list) and online. Fortunately for us New Yorkers, the first Amai retail store will be opening this summer on 3rd Ave between 16th and 17th Streets. Something to look forward to!

Note:
Baking Fridays occurs one Friday a month. Sign up to be on our mailing list and we'll let you know when Baking Fridays takes place!

If you have food allergies, please read the ingredients label carefully.

The Carlyle hotel has a wonderful, fancy, traditional buffet brunch that makes me think of dressing up for Easter Sunday and other special occasion brunches with my family.

I hate to be so completely average and to also wait in line behind throngs of tourists and many others me’s, but Balthazar! It is just SO yummy.
As for outside of the city, I recently had a great Mother’s Day brunch at: Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Grill

“The Lobster Club with Bib Lettuce, Tomatoes and Bacon served with Pommes Frites” was delicious!

Two faves I crave:
1) Prune’s fried oyster omelette w/ remoulade sauce, side of homemade lamb sausage, and a bloody mary!
2) City Bakery’s glazed french toast by the pound, a pretzel croissant, and hot chocolate!

I don’t brunch much, but when I do, the bread basket at Vinegar Factory is a favorite.

my favorite brunch craving in the city is my own fried egg sandwich, with fresh bread and a slice of tomato!

if i go out for brunch, i go all out…poached eggs on crab cakes at le gigot or chicken biscuits and donuts at pies-n-thighs

The muffin basket that comes to every table at Dizzy’s in Park Slope. Not too sweet, served with strawberry butter . . . yum.

I love Murray’s Bagels. My fave is the pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese.

My wife makes a mean egg sandwich: scrambled egg with tomoato, onion, and mayonaisse on 7-grain toast.

I LOVE the salt bagel at Bergens in Brooklyn. It tastes like a pretzel!
